Frequently Asked Questions

What can you expect?
Initially there is an assessment session which provides the counsellor with an opportunity to decide whether the type of counselling being offered is appropriate for the needs of the client. Also, by the end of the session an individual should have a better idea of whether they would feel comfortable working with the counsellor.
If an individual decides to go ahead with counselling, the counsellor and client will work together to negotiate a contract to suit the client’s needs.
All clients will be asked to give the name and address of their current GP.
However, due to the confidential nature of counselling, no details will be disclosed to the GP or any third party without prior written consent of the client.

What will it cost?
Fees for a 1 hour session are £35 paid by cheque or cash.

How can I be contacted?
You can contact me directly using the phone numbers listed on the reverse of this leaflet.
There are times when I am unavailable for various reasons. To allow messages to get through I have a confidential voicemail service that I encourage clients to use when I am not personally available.

What is counselling?
Counselling provides an opportunity for clients to be listened to by a professional in a private, safe and uninterrupted space.
The counsellor/client relationship is unique and should be one of mutual trust and commitment, where the client chooses what is talked about.
The role of the counsellor is to help clients to understand why they feel the way they do, and how past experiences influence how we respond to other people and to events in our lives. The counsellor helps the client to explore past and present experiences with a view to the client gaining a better understanding of what might lie behind current difficulties. With increased self-awareness and fresh insight, the client is in a better position to find their own solutions or better ways of coping with life’s challenges.
